Psyche: Turn Any Music Into a Visual Experience

A psychedelic music visualizer that transforms sound into mesmerizing, reactive WebGL visuals. Play music through your speakers and watch the magic happen.

The Problem

Music streaming killed the visualizer. Remember Winamp? Those mesmerizing patterns that danced with your music? Today we stare at static album art while music plays.

Our Solution

Real-time 3D visuals that react to your music. No account, no download. Just open your browser and play.

Target Audience

Music lovers who miss the glory days of Winamp visualizers. Creators who want to record visual content for social media. Anyone who wants to see their music, not just hear it.

Why We Built Psyche

Remember sitting in front of your computer, Winamp open, mesmerized by Milkdrop visualizations dancing to your music? That experience disappeared. Spotify shows you a static album cover. Apple Music does the same. We traded visual magic for convenience.

We wanted that feeling back. Not as a nostalgic recreation, but as something new - leveraging modern WebGL, real-time audio analysis, and the creative possibilities of shader programming.

Psyche is our answer: a browser-based visualizer that works with any audio source and generates stunning, reactive visuals in real-time.

What is Psyche?

Psyche is a web-based psychedelic music visualizer. Open it in your browser, grant microphone access, and play music through your speakers. Psyche listens and transforms what it hears into mesmerizing 3D visuals.

No accounts. No downloads. No complicated setup. Just music made visible.

The visuals aren't pre-made animations - they're generated in real-time by custom GLSL shaders responding to your music's frequency content. Bass makes things pulse. Highs add sparkle. Every song looks different.

How Psyche Works

Audio Analysis: Your microphone captures whatever audio is playing through your speakers. The Web Audio API's AnalyserNode breaks down the sound into frequency bands 60 times per second, giving us bass, mid, and high energy levels plus beat detection.

Shader Rendering: Custom WebGL fragment shaders receive the audio data as uniforms. Each visualizer mode uses these values differently - bass might control scale, mids might affect color, highs might add particle effects.

Real-Time Response: Because we're processing live audio, there's no latency. When the bass drops, you see it drop. The visuals are a true reflection of the music in the moment.

Visual Modes

Liquid: Morphing metaball blobs that stretch and pulse with the music. Organic, flowing motion like lava lamp meets bass drop.

Particles: 10,000+ particles swirling in 3D space. Each particle responds to frequency data, creating galaxy-like formations that breathe with your music.

Waveform: Circular audio spectrum with rotating bars. A modern take on the classic visualizer aesthetic.

Kaleidoscope: Symmetric, folding patterns that morph with audio. Hypnotic and geometric, like looking through a musical kaleidoscope.

Tunnel: Infinite wormhole effect. Fly through rings of light that pulse with the beat - perfect for electronic music.

Terrain: 3D landscape with rolling hills and a neon grid. Pure synthwave aesthetic that reacts to every frequency.

Galaxy: Spiral galaxy with stars, dust clouds, and nebulae. Cosmic and expansive, great for ambient and orchestral music.

Moire: Grid-based interference patterns creating liquid, psychedelic artifacts. Subtle and mesmerizing.

Flux: Fluid caustic effect with deep navy to cyan to orange transitions. Starburst liquid motion that flows with your music.

Key Features

Universal Audio Support: Works with any audio source - Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, vinyl, live instruments. If your speakers can play it, Psyche can visualize it.

9 Unique Visualizer Modes: Each mode offers a completely different aesthetic, from organic blobs to cosmic galaxies to synthwave landscapes.

Real-Time Recording: Capture up to 30 seconds of visuals as MP4 video. Rendered client-side with no server upload - your content stays yours.

Customizable Controls: Adjust speed, intensity, hue shift, brightness, and zoom globally. Each mode also has unique parameters to dial in your perfect look.

No Account Required: Open the URL and start visualizing. No signup, no login, no friction.

60fps Analysis: Audio is sampled 60 times per second for buttery smooth visual response.

Mobile Support: Works on phones and tablets, though desktop is recommended for best performance.

Social-Ready Export: Downloaded videos are optimized for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and other social platforms.

Who Should Use Psyche

Music Lovers: Anyone who misses visualizers and wants to see their music again. Put Psyche on a second monitor or TV while you work, relax, or party.

Content Creators: Generate eye-catching visual content for social media. Record your favorite songs with different visual modes for unique, shareable clips.

Party Hosts: Project Psyche on a wall or screen at your next gathering. It's an instant vibe upgrade that responds to whatever music is playing.

Meditation & Focus: Some modes (Galaxy, Terrain, Moire) work beautifully with ambient music for relaxation or focus sessions.

Musicians & DJs: Visualize your own music or sets. See how your productions translate visually in real-time.

How Psyche is Different

No Platform Lock-In: Unlike Spotify Canvas or Apple Music visualizers, Psyche works with any audio source. Your music library doesn't determine your visual options.

Real Generative Art: These aren't pre-made animations synced to tempo. Every frame is generated by shaders responding to actual frequency data. Every song, every moment is unique.

Recording Built-In: Most visualizers are watch-only. Psyche lets you capture and share your visual experience.

Browser-Based: No app to download, no software to install. Works on any modern browser with WebGL support.

Open Design: We're building toward presets you can save and share, community galleries, and live synchronized rooms. The visualizer is just the beginning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Spotify account?

No. Psyche works with any audio playing through your speakers. Just grant microphone access and it analyzes whatever you're playing - Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, vinyl, anything.

How does the audio analysis work?

Psyche uses the Web Audio API to analyze audio from your microphone at 60fps. It extracts bass (20-250Hz), mids (250-2000Hz), highs (2000-16kHz), and detects beats using threshold-based peak detection.

Can I record and share the visuals?

Yes! Tap the record button to capture up to 30 seconds of visuals. The video renders client-side using FFmpeg.wasm and downloads as MP4. Perfect for TikTok, Instagram, or anywhere else.

What visualizer modes are available?

9 modes: Liquid (morphing metaballs), Particles (10K+ 3D particles), Waveform (circular spectrum), Kaleidoscope (symmetric patterns), Tunnel (infinite wormhole), Terrain (synthwave landscape), Galaxy (spiral nebula), Moire (interference patterns), and Flux (fluid caustics).

Does it work on mobile?

Yes, but desktop is recommended for best performance. The WebGL shaders are GPU-intensive, and larger screens make the visuals more immersive.

Is Psyche free?

The web visualizer is completely free. We may add premium features like preset saving, community galleries, and live rooms in the future.

What about latency?

There's minimal latency since we're analyzing live audio from your microphone. The visuals react in real-time - you'll see the bass hit the moment you hear it.

Can I customize the visuals?

Each mode has unique settings (blob size, particle count, rotation speed, etc.) plus global controls for speed, intensity, hue shift, brightness, and zoom. Dial in your perfect look.
